Hey, do all USB mics work on the PS3, and if so, which is the best please, I have a blu tooth motorola, but it isnt to my liking, its quite uncomfortable, I like one were I can hear the sound of the game itself along with talking, and it has to be very comfy. Wireless would be glorious, but USb tends to be more reliable, its not a thing against Sony, but bluetooth in general tends to get confused on what it working with.....:S

I'm pretty sure they all work.
Just a thought, but has anyone ever tried to connect a USB mic directly into the PS3 controller via a USB to USB Mini adaptor? If that were to work it would be awesome.

That port is just used to charge the battery.. I dont think it has any other function.
As far as I can see the port doesn't really have a power source. So plugging stuff into it wouldn't do anything. The power comes from the PS3.

i have a plantronics mic/headset. I LOVE IT. The sound is amazing, my voice comes in clear is what my buddy tells me, and it's only like 40-50 bucks at best buy.

plantronics sells those too with the big ear covers, mine does go over the ears butit works like the behind the neck headphones, i'd give it a 7.5-8 for comfort.

I've got a USB mic that came with SOCOM2 way back in the day, its a great mic and it's got a mute button (great for open-mic games so everyone doesn't have to listen to you speak to the woman or whatever in the background).
I bought an extra a few months back thinking mine was messing up for about $20 USD at a local Gamestop but it was just a Logitech, works well and quite comfortable but no mute button.
Both great USB mics however they are both corded and as far as I know they both just transfer the voice chat, not the game sounds. (I don't think any USB mic plugged into the USB ports on the PS will transfer game sounds in addition to voice chat?)
If you don't mind the cord, USB is definitly the way to go IMO, no charging batteries, not shoddy connections, no echoes, no crackling/cricket noises like the 2 BT mics I tried (Motorola that came with my phone and the real nice Motorola wrap-around that came with my girlfriend's phone).

I got mine at gamestop it was cheap too like $19.99 and it works great too no need to charge or anything like that. Its a PS2 mic but its compatible with the PS3 and it does work I talk in COD4 matches with friends all the time.

USB microphones work. I tried my Samson C01U with it and it works perfectly fine.

I use the Logitech Notebook Premium. It works brilliantly with the PS3. It has two 3.5mm jacks, one goes into the TV, the other through a USB adapter (supplied) and into the PS3. So you can hear the game and other players through the headset while being able to talk to them too.

The USB ports on the PS3 operate on USB 2.0 standard. The functionality is only limited to what the PS3 will support (i.e. the drivers it has.) It will support many Camera's, Mice, Keyboards, .... doesn't mater if you use a USB-MiniUSB (USB-b) cable that's just a connection adaptor. A good example is I use one of my card readers this way, as it's more convenient to plug it in than to open the flap and stick the card reader in.

^ I was referring to the actual Mini-USB port on the controller, not the USB ports on the PS3 console itself.
