I have a refurbished ps3 that came back to me when GTAIV came out.
This system run very nice never had an issue with GTAIV or any other games. And it run very quite just like the wii.
Damn it run better then the other ps3 I had because my first one was very loud and sometime lock on when playing games.

The refurb one looked new, played like new, and was actually quieter than my previous PS3.
No problems here with a refurb.

I am sending my 80g back tomorrow. If they send back one that isn't working properly then I will keep UPS busy until they can get it straight. Maybe even get compensation out of it somehow for being inconvenienced if it gets that far...

Same story here. Got my refurbed one about a month ago. I was shocked how quiet it is. Silent, all the time. Even after playing COD4 for 4 hours straight.
It has froze on me twice since playing online. I think that is typical every once in a while though.

Now that 60s are no longer sold, they have to wait for broken ones to be fixed, rather than having new parts to swap in for speed.

What causes this. It's sometimes regular with F1:CE. Though stability has been much better since 2.35. Last night was my first lockup since 2.35 was released while waiting on the next race in the lobby (currently connected via ethernet.) Something always seems to happen in the lobbies. As I noticed a few people on my list in the same lobby also went offline when it hard locked.

So from all the posts so far, the only freezes from refurbished PS3's are online? No disc read errors from them? (the only error I'm worried about) I just hope that those refurbs have new parts in them, I mean, I guess they do since they're quieter than store-bought ones and stuff.
EDIT: This question is for those that used the warranty with the receipt: did you get a year of warranty in the unit they sent?
AndyD
May 23rd, 2008, 09:03 PM
The refurbs can have all the problems of a new system. The thing is they come with either a 3 months warranty or until the original warranty would run out. So you are covered for problems. I would not worry about it too much. Just play the games and enjoy the console.

I'm not sure. It's happened twice, both times while I called in an Airstrike. When the bombs drop and the entire level shakes I think there is information overload across the internet connection. It's weird though because it doesn't drop me from the game, the game just freezes. I have to flip the switch in back to get it going again.
No real complaints though. My original 60gb was loud and when I heard about others having silent PS3's I figured they weren't listening hard enough. Now it wasn't as loud as my 360 (when I had one), but I could definitely here it during silent spells during a game or movie. The refurbed one is as good as new and I feel pretty secure with it.

Most people say that turning the PS3 off by the back switch messes it up, and sometimes causes the disc reading error (maybe that's what killed my PS3 or GTA 4 after it froze...who knows). Just trying to help, anyway, do you tried to "soft reset", quitting the game by the PS menu or turning the system off by PS menu?

You should call Sony up and ask them why are they taking so long. If it is a 60GB, I read somewhere around here that since those aren't being sold anymore they could take sometime 'till a fixed one can be sent.

Yup tried all that. I'm very careful with my electronics. I tried a soft reboot, no luck. Then I tried ejecting the disc, no luck. So I just flipped the switch. My heart skipped a beat when I tried turning it back on and it has that slight delay after touching the power button. :-D

Yeah you should have a service number online that you can check. Or just call. They were very helpful for me. It took 4 weeks for me to get my 60Gb back from repair. I should have had it a week earlier but the coffin got rerouted on the way out from Texas for some reason.

Mine had a similar problem. It wasn't an "overflow" issue, but it was "re-routed." Took an extra 4 days just to get the coffin.
That EU exchange service sounds awesome. The replacement comes then you just swap at the door? That is killer.
Here in the states they send out an empty coffin box, you stick yours in, ship it to Sony in Texas, then they ship out the replacement. The entire thing would take at least 7-10 business days at the quickest. The coffin is supposed to take 2-3 days, the ship back is overnight, then the replacement is sent 2-3 day delivery.

Yea that's the sh*tty thing about having a 20GB, if something happens to it this far passed the 'kill-off' date its anyone's guess whether you'll get another 20 or not. Hopefully they can fix/refurb your system because if not, who knows what you'll get back. I'd assume they've still got 20's somewhere, its Sony after all, and when I sent mine in the rep I spoke to said they had MANY refurbed 20GBs but that was over a year ago now.
Good luck fellow 20 gig owner, Sony's Customer Service is excellent (or at least it used to be), so if they can help you out they probably will.

I had a problem with my PS3 in March. It would no longer play ANY Bluray discs, It would play any other disc just fine. (PS2, DVD, CD, Etc.) I called and had it fixed and sent back in a total of 13 days from call to getting it back. I got the same unit back and have had no probllems with it at all. I find it odd though that it wouldn't play Bluray but would play everything else!?!?! Sony's customer service was very good and I must admit competent, They just were not forthcoming about what the actual problem was, I still don't know! It is worth noting that it broke down 2 months after the warranty ran out and I had to pay $171 and change to get it fixed. Very satisfied with the level of service I recieved. Good luck to all experiencing problems, I went through major withdrawl for those 13 days! P.S. 60gb launch console.

Service here in UK is brilliant. My pal 60gb failed 3 months out of warranty, i rung up fri, expecting to have wait at least 1week, he said sorry but as it was a bank holiday on following monday earliest they could send me new1 was wed so 2 working days later I had a refurb 60gb at 9am in a big pink box, all sealed up and they never charged me a penny. Outstanding service, I guess living in uk has its benefits after all. Refurb is alot quieter plus obviously newer looking. Couldnt be happier.

I sent my PS3 in for repairs on the 21st. It was delayed because of bad weather conditions in Texas. Got there on the 25th. I checked the status on PS3 earlier today and they said it was assigned. Checked it again about 5 minutes ago and it was shipped today. Pretty fast turn around. Can't wait till it gets here.
