If you have not heard, Senator Kennedy of Massachusetts was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. I just thought it was appropriate to bring this up because he is so influential, and with his recent support of Obama, how do you think this is going to effect the fragile democratic system today and in the future?
Please keep all comments clean and non-biased towards one party or another, please remember Senator Kennedy is going through some terrible times, and be respectful to him.

It's a real shame. It's a terrible disease. Prognosis tends to be months, not years, according to the news.

Well I'll certainly agree that it's a disease and the prognosis is bad.... But truth be told I have trouble pitying the man.. This goes agaisnt what I should feel and think, but it's hard sometimes to separate such emotions from what is good and proper.
Regarding his effect on the campaign- I'm not sure. It depends.

This is a very succinct summary of what is wrong with US politics today. You may disagree with his beliefs and vision for the country. His rivals in the capital certainly disagreed with him politically. At the same time, he was friends with these people (Reagan for example). It is a said state of affairs when the people in this country cannot feel basic human sympathy for a dying man due to political differences.

Yeah it is sad and does hit ya when you hear that he possibly only has a short time to live. I remember some people being happy and saying that Tony Snow deserved cancer which disgusted me and last thing I need to do is be a hypocrite when it is someone I 100% disagree with.

Sonyfan,
I doubt it is something that is only wrong with politics today, I imagine people have felt that way for a long time, wishing for the death of a political enemy. I imagine quite a few people were happy when Lincoln was shot, but maybe not, who knows.
I for one wish no ill will on Kennedy, hope he will be ok.

Senator Kennedy is a powerful speaker, and as I watched the news last night, a Republican, whom the name evades me as of right now, was almost brought to tears by the news. Despite political differences, these two very different men were the best of friends. It must be a sad day in the senate, as others described him to be so lively at his age, that it must damper things down there.
