Spoilers so watch out.
First of all that was probably some of the best mecha action I've seen since the finale of Gundam 00 against the Mobile Armor.
But they introduced a new group of fighters who seem human based when they were inside the alien mothership. Afterwards you seem them in a space-fold bubble with a number of other ships, were they from the Galaxy?
And also we see that Music plays yet another large role in the battle, even stymies the Vajra when Sheryl's and Ranka's singing is amplified through the earring. Was that earring destroyed?
I think they've made great strides with the general animation segments, it looks so much better than "The Shadow Chronicles"
