I think it looks ok, but some people I know have seen it and they were very split about it.

I'm really gutted that I'm with family in Germany at the moment and can't find any place within 200km [and I don't drive] that shows the film without dubbing and dubbing really ****ing sucks.

I was hoping that this would be a great movie, I thought that George Lucas and Spielberg aren't on the top of their game, but I remained hopeful that this would be a great movie worthy of the name Indiana Jones. I was so disappointed. This film is complete rubbish. Where has George Lucas' and Spielbergs talent gone, into the space between space? I'm a massive Indy fan and it was like meeting an old friend and finding out that he's turned into a bumbling p*ssy. It wasn't even funny.

Aliens, WTF were you thinking!!!! Indy marrying Marion!!!!! No NO No, worse scripting/story ever. And WTF was up with those monkeys and groundhogs (are they groundhogs, I'm not sure?) Hiding from a nuke in a fridge! It was just sad to see what they have done, they really have lost it as film makers.

So yeah, really bad film. Quite disappointed but I've still got the originals. I'm just going to pretend this travesty never happened.

I mean I loved some things. Like the iconic putting on the hat at the beginning. Cate Blanchet initially [she lost credibility later on] and the music. There is just something about the music and no matter how hard they try they cannot **** it up.

But WTF Aliens. I cannot get over it. Aliens. From space. Aliens. WTF.

Them marrying was allright/believeable and I loved the references in the film, like they mentioned his dad and how Marcus was dead. Which was a shame. I'd love to see some more former people in the next one. Sort of make this the trilogy where he meets all the previous companions. What's Short Round up to these days? Or the crazy arabic guy?

Anyways, aliens, WTF.

Oh and NASTY ants scene.

Judging from what I have read from the spoilers, I wonder:

If they use Shia's character to continue the Indy adventures, that by having this 'aliens' plot in this film we see him going on these X-Files type quests

Ok, I'm bored of spoilering stuff, changed the thread title and put a warning there.

I was thinking that you know.

I did like what they did with his character, that he was primarily fighting on the cars something Harrison Ford couldn't have done. The car scene annoyed me a little, it was overlong and too convenient. Like the swinging through the trees which was too slow for Indy Jr to catch up. Or mum turning up *just* that moment after we'd not seen her in minutes.

And aliens. WTF. I cannot get over that. Who the **** came up with that?

THUGGEDOUT
May 23rd, 2008, 09:02 PM
I think maybe the whole aliens thing may be to help influence the newer audience abd set up a new franchise. Back in the eighties I think the subjects the Indiana Jones movies were something that intrigued people a lot at that time. Now times are different maybe, they are trying to freshen it up I guess...

carocat
May 23rd, 2008, 09:13 PM
Freshen it up by making it ****?

The Russians replaced the Nazis well. The atmosphere with communism came across well. The fight and the general era came across well. The aliens didn't..

I mean we had all the religious artifacts: The Ark of the Covenant [with some God stuff killing all the Nazis, so it was spectacular], the stones and cultish themes with the temple of Doom and the Holy Grail [tests, ancient people, Nazis.. ] and they all had something about them and were spectacular enough.

Now I'm not all on top with the beliefs and relics surrounding God, but Wikipedia comes up with some stuff here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Relics_attributed_to_Jesus
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Mythological_objects

And much more. Aliens is just sooo out there.

THUGGEDOUT
May 23rd, 2008, 09:21 PM
Well like I said maybe it's to set up the future franchise and they are seeing aliens as a way to attract a newer audience and with special effects the way it is, perhaps move the franchise into CGI eye candy... But Speilberg is a UFO fanatic anyway, shame he had to incoporate it into the Indy series...

How could the studios ambush me like that. I just found out today that the film open a day earlier. Opening on Thursdays, I don't like this at all.

Saw it, enjoyed it. Except the ending. Aliens? Nazis? Nuclear weapons? 50's era? What was Spielberg smoking? LOL

May 24th, 2008, 09:44 AM
It's a movie that will be watched once only. Really not a long-lasting film which you could watch over and over again.

The movie was perhaps the most clichéish movie ever. EVER. If you don't believe me... well just watch it. I laughed at the clichéishness at some parts, which is not good, of course.

But the worst thing was the plot. Yeah, the plot was quite passable/good, but WTF with the damn ALIENS? Indiana Jones was always a treasure hunter, dealing with monsters etc, but not with some goddam' aliens.

THUGGEDOUT
May 25th, 2008, 05:45 PM
Just got back from watching this and I honestly think that Speilberg along with Lucas were abducted by aliens and told to rehash all their good movies and make them with some sort of outrageous plot to include aliens. I wasted 2 hours of my life watching this pile of dung heap that included, Shia swinging with monkies, stupid gophers or whatever that were popping up at wierd times, Ray Winstone yelling so much crap it was like Indy vs. Beowulf and, Shia balancing on two jeeps while getting his crotch hit by plants, John Hurt babbling on and giving his best Charles Manson impression and last but not least...E.T. & friends.

I think that's the main reason I liked parts of the film. I love the trilogy as I've been watchign them as a young child and they're not just films, but they remind me of things like Christmas, etc. And Indy being the same or at least very similar the feeling's still there. If that makes any sense.

I thought the film was a fun adventure flick. It had some scenes I would change or alter a little, but I thought it was interesting.

Unfortunately, every time it comes to aliens in films people just seem to laugh at the movie. Personally I thought I think the whole theory is a very intriguing one. I have actually read books and articles debating it and it's just so interesting. But for some reason people only take it as a joke, and thus I have a feeling reviewers and audiences will not applaud the movie. IMO, it's a shame.

I saw it finally yesterday and im sorry to anyone that said it was a bad movie but it was awsome lol.

I loved it because it was a movie that had you follow clues to figure out along with indiana jones and had alot of twists that related to past movies etc...Not only that but it had the most amazing camera shots ive ever seen and being a movie maker that blew me away. It reminded me of National Treasure, another of my favorites so far this year, just in its own indana jones way. The movie was also filled with the classic funny comments and funny parts, especially when they are stuck in the mush lol.

The problems i had with the movie was it wasnt indiana jones. I mean my favorite indiana had you walking through caves and all this cool stuff about the classic indiana jones, this one wasnt like that. Then the whole aliens thing was kinda lame, i mean they could of made it seem like aliens then in the end make it seem like some ancient artifact and it would of been alot better, but aliens can have you say anything and "o its related to aliens" etc...Hmm a rock that must be aliens. and thats preaty much what they did. The last scene was awsome with the aliens taking off and such, just awsome, but i didnt like how it was aliens. The middle of the movie led away from the whole aliens theme by making it classic indiana jones but then they end up at the final destination and back we go. Im not saying this because i despise anything with aliens but this is indiana jones, they could easily take this story and put it in another movie culdnt they? I rather see something like a artifact or spirit or something.

Then i dont know why everyone is complaining about the ending? I mean speilberg is known for bad endings but this one was ok. I mean yea the aliens just up and leave but other than the abrupt end it was still kinda cool. I think its because the kid almost puts on the hat?

Along with that im sorry to say it but shia labuff is not the right actor for his role. I mean i think he is an amazing actor, yes im a fan of his, but he just didnt fit the role. It wasnt supposed to be a tough biker it was supposed to be a kid acting tough, and while he was doing ok at it, it just wasnt belivable. Still did great in the movie.

Overall not the best Indy but man was it a good movie. I give it a 8/10. The thing is the past Indy films were out of this world so its hard to match up, but its still going to gave the rest of the summer films a hard time.

Still waiting for The Dark Knight though!

In my opinion ignore the paid reviews and go see this movie, if your an indy fan you will love it as well.

In my opinion ignore the paid reviews and go see this movie, if your an indy fan you will love it as well.Ya I really liked National Treasure as well. Got the second one on Blu-ray. As far as the epic adventure genre goes, I'll agree with the camera shots. I'm just more of a tilted camera at an angle kind of shot (like some of the shots for 300). HOWEVER, I LOVED the shot of Indy walking up into the shot of the nuclear blast. That was unbelievably epic and just cool! I seriously want to make that my PS3 wallpaper lol.

I think your explanation of the Indy films being an artifact-based adventure was the best argument over the aliens plot. Looking at it that way, I can fully understand why people might not like this new plot direction. But the riddles were still pretty good.

Ironic that you say "the past Indy films were out of this world." I think that was the toughest part (the bolded section in you quoted post) for this movie. There were soooo many expectations for this film that even if it were artifact based I'm sure people would have found something to argue about. It's just so difficult to write another classic years and years later... And for that I give Lucas and Spielberg credit for putting up a valiant effort. As we both come to the conclusion its an awesome movie although it has a few flaws.

The only problems I had with Episodes I, II, and III (Star Wars) was the acting and primarily by Hayden Christensen. Other than that he did an excellent job of weaving in themes with an incredible in-depth and solid story.

Alright, I'll give you that The Temple of Doom wasn't the greatest film... but did you guys not like the other two??

Maybe it's just my opinion, but 90% of the stuff he's WRITTEN is great! The acting might have been off, but it was written well.

The ENDING!(BIG LOAD OF POO)
I am your father(Sound Familiar)
Sci-Fi?
Star wars wedding end
Plastic Scull
GORGE LUCAS!(Seriously)
The Ugly...
OK the movie was NOT that bad but the silly UFO ending really ruined the WHOLE movie for me. It felt like George got the scrips mixed up with his current star wars project (My Rant on George Lucas Coming Soon) or he just copied and pasted from old scrips!
All of sudden at the end we have Indiana Jones son who he has neglected for 12 years or whatever saying "Wow i have a great dad" and the mother doesn't seem to care either. Sorry there was a little fight in a vehicle well that makes everything OK!. Italic means sarcastic...
Also I swear the whole wedding sequence at the end was like watching the end of a star wars movie, might as well have had R2D2 going beep beep boop and they all laugh. I was ready for it fold in and play the star wars music!
If you are going to watch this film then be warned, walk out 30 Min's before the end.

As a film in general, it's pretty enjoyable. It's full of action and there are a fair few comedy scenes. However, looking at it as a sequel to Indiana Jones, it's really disappointing and not true to the series, whatsoever. Like mentioned, the addition of aliens in the storyline is bizarre and only makes me wonder if Lucas was drunk when writing the script and got Indiana Jones mixed up with Star Wars.

But, yeah, I'd still recommend you go and see it because it's still a good film, just don't go expecting a quality follow-up to the previous Indiana Jones films if you're a big Indy fan.

I'm starting to get a headache from whiners (speaking of the reviews, not user opinions)...

Yep, Including UFO's or Aliens in ANY movie automatically makes it Star Wars???

Yes, Close Encounters was a terrible Star Wars knock-off. That's right E.T. Also a horrible Star Wars clone. Don't let me forget... Independay Day! Man where was George Lucas there??? Must've been drinking then too.

How many movies dealt with an alien-related cover-up in the 50's? So when this movie IS BASED in the 50's and tampers with that idea it's foul play. Got news for ya, it's a different era... the Holy Grail, the Ark of the Covenant, Nazi's... been there done that, gone. And those Idea's were just as used and debated as the Alien theory.

Sorry, I should stop. The movie should've had some glowing stones, or a magic cup or some other mythical relic. Oh wait it did... a Crystal Skull from El Dorado.

The Soviets were obsessed with the paranormal and extraterrestrial. They did have a Psi-ops unit of sorts, and they created crop circles around their testing facilities in the hopes of more UFO appearances.

Also, all MIG pilots were ordered to engage and shoot them down on site.

This was after Roswell- but even if Roswell didn't happen and there were no aliens, the Soviets absolutely believed in them enough to do all of the above.
