Hey there:
http://galeon.com/equipoalpha/uncleforums.jpg
Well E3 is near, and we should start to think how are we going to clean these forums.
Right now, many users dont use the search buttons and the forums are crowded with junk posts and threads.
We have 2 admins.
We have 11 mods.
We have 20 SMC.
We have 10354 registered members and growing
In the last E3 we had 800+ members online.
Honestly i hope thee forums dont colapse from junk threads during E3 so I had an idea:
For the time the E3 lasts, we could have a group of voluntiers that would like to work as "TSMC" (temporal senior members council)
This users will work as SMC during the show. All junk threads and junk posts, will be reported to the MODS, and afterall, closed.
I think it is a good idea since every once in a while, the forums get lagged because a lot of people is online and posting at the same time.
Now imagine during E3 when SONY gives the last words on PS3 (release, price and games). The forums will crash if we dont act, so i suggest doing a Voluntier Campaign During E3.
OVER.

See ya!

I'm sure many of the mods will be online as often as possible, same goes for the SMC. We just added another mod and quite a few new SMC members recently, and this was done in preparation of E3. We are still contemplating whether or not to add more SMC members before E3 as well.

Its not so much the spam(which is very little) Its the repeated threads with pointless arguments and conversations that happens over & over & over again

I have faith in the mods though, but even if there was 100 mods & 200 smc's it would still be difficult to police.

How about for the duration of E3 you actually have to have a certian amount of posts befor you can start a thread in the PS3 forums to deter people sigining up and posting "Isnt the PS3 great!" threads and other usless things.

As fallout boy said here, it is not spam, it is the junk threads, like this weekend i have seen 5 or 6 junk threads about a game.
And yes i have faith in you mods and SMC, but i dont have faith in how network might work with thousands of people posting junk at the same time. Because of this, if 3 or 4 mods cannot read a post because of lack of network, maybe another voluntier might be able to do it and report it.

^^ If there are network problems it wont be mods or smc's worrying about posts it will be them actually trying to access the site.

If there is a network problem everyone on the forum would experience it, traffic would literally come to a grinding halt.

That's probably the best idea i've heard so far, atleast a 20 post minimum before you can create threads

No for new members, you should have to be a member(100 posts) to post any threads. and it's not just for E3, it should be used all the time.

I have to agree with the house. So we won't see newbies posting same old same old topics over and over again.

I'll be here for sure but I think this rule would be unfair to many. Not everone is a noob. That may be true, but if they contribute to discussion as per usual and as everyone else has done, they will become a member and gain over 100 posts easily. Thus, the longer new members have to stay silent and gather an understanding on how the forums work, and most of all information of the PS3, the better it is for the community; then we will be seeing a huge decline in junk threads and/or spam.

I think that is a good idea, not being able to starta new topic until they are a member. Some may argue that it isn't fair on new members, but it will benefit them greatly I believe.

Fallout Boy
February 27th, 2006, 11:45 PM
Its just a suggestion, it doesn't need be a permanant thing, just like a month as extra traffic & interest cause a lot of posting, and it can be only in the gaming threads, it doesn't need to be the general or suggestions or other sections that have less activitiy.

Hotice
February 28th, 2006, 02:09 AM
I promise to do my part in keeping away from pointless posting during the E3 overload of infromation. I do know some of my post are pointless, but i wan't the shadow and the glow for my name, that takes like 2500 and 3000 skill points, thats 5500 skill points, im sure ill have that by the time E3 come around so i will definetly chill and start working on quality not quantity.

I think the post amount should be at least300 to 500, or maybe only moderators, admins, and scm or people that gained stickys or those with post of the month should be able to post. Better yet how about they just regulate certain forums, such as the ps3 and the ps4 games forums.

All in all there should be a restiction of only people selected or with a certain amount of stars can post for a certain period of time.

Better yet, final sugestion, in certain froums, ps3 and ps3 games, only people that have posted a certain amount( at least 250 or 300 and up post) or that have a certain amount of stars1-2 and up) can post threads while anyone can comment, can yall even do that?

it was handled well last time. and im going to be on to help with SMC powers for sure. i dont think it will be that bad, then again like you said better safe then sorry.

February 28th, 2006, 12:28 PM
I think adding a new temporary SMC, although a good idea is not particularly practical. I think the best option is for the staff to get together and bulk up the current SMC and Mod groups as best we can. That doesn’t mean any rash promotions; I can assure everyone that won’t happen. It just means that we may be more on the lookout for potential staff than normal.

I'll be on for sure during E3, i remember last time it was crazy!

Wonder if we will beat the record numbers we had online this time, we had a record number of actual users online during.. uhm.. wow ive forgotten the name of that event now... :|
(The really overhyped event that basically had no news on PS3, had Sony Reader at it.. thats about all i remember now lol)

This idea would probably cause more hassle than good since there'd be as many threads created for spam/repeated threads as there is the actual threads in question
Plus the more you have, the more chance there is of repeated reports!

It was handled well last time. I was reading this site then, and you guys were doing a good job. But the member account has increased by like 10,000 members. That's a pretty big difference!

Also, if you're going to report a usless thread or old thing, should I PM a moderator? Should it be a certain one?

I think i would have to agree with falloutboy, the minimum post would also help with keeping the forum a bit more clean, remember when there was mass junk threads and some mods although logged on, they could not get to the threads because they would time out, someone pointed out that would not be fair to some members seeing as some read the forums for weeks or even monts before actually signing up and posting.

What can be done is have a separate forum topic, i.e. newbie questions, where post counts did not apply that way they can start threads asking for help and raise their post count. I hate to bring this up and annoy some, but I truly believe this can really benefit the community as a whole

Not neccessarily.

Consider that now you have people spamming 20 posts somewhere quick to post new threads. Then we have to go cleanup the threads and the 20 other posts.

If we catch their bad threads fast enough, we can delete those, warn and possibly ban the users.

It is my opinion that any decent offenses should result in an immediate 3 day ban if they occur during E3.

Sbu_01
March 1st, 2006, 01:22 AM
Very true but now instead of going through different topics, xbox, technology, psp, ps3 games etc. looking for these useless threads.

You already know where to look. You corner them only needing 1 mod in that section making fast edits. I once again apologize for pressing the matter.

Does the E3 last for 2 weeks!? Well i did not know that! Damn that is bad new for me. I think we need much more people than expected then to promote this thread.
For some admi or mod, do you guys think this could go stickied? Maybe that way people might see it, and it might be cleaned up and used next year in E3 2007.
Dunno, just a thought but if you think about it being useful.
BTW i am going to work on a little signature so people supporting E3 cleanliness can use it if they want.

I'll help out if needed. Hard to believe E3 is just around the corner again.

How much of a jump was there in the amount of members during last E3?

Triple/quadruple the amount of people online at one time.

Wow, someone said there were 800 members last time! That must hav been an awful strain on the Mods and Admin! I think we are prepared enough this time though as we will probably have 4000 new members maybe and at least 1000 people on at a time?

You sure we are prepared? Just a little while ago well you all know what happened.
I think we should have maybe another mod and 1 or 2 more SCM's to cope... If the price date's are released along with a trailer of lets say GTA:4 for example we could have some serious troll problems.

Maybe so, nut they were more than prepared at that thing in January when we all thought the info would be released, and now they have added 6 more SMCs and a new mod, i think we need one more mod but we certainly have enough SMCs.
