Konami carefully picking studio to do MGS movie; director Paul Thomas Anderson interested

In a recent press conference surrounding the summer release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Konami Digital expressed its desire to keep the Metal Gear Solid movie as close to what the gaming fans originally adored about MGS. And to that end, they are carefully considering which movie studio will get to produce the motion picture adaptation.

It's really no wonder why. After a slew of blatant...err...misrepresentations of iconic game franchises, Konami wasn't about to just hand the fruits of its labor to the whims of Hollywood. Aki Saito of Konami who's playing a significant role in the feature film project, said:

Often Hollywood adaptations have the original game creator involved at the beginning, but somewhere along the line they fall out of view. This is why it’s very important for us to carefully pick the studio for this project.

Saito confirmed that Hideo Kojima will not be on the director's chair for the MGS movie. Pressed for input, Saito only managed to say that director Paul Thomas Anderson of "There Will Be Blood" fame was interested.

I think.....Mission impossible, Hitman, Platoon.

Do you think they can make it happen... a grand MGS movie?

As long as it was Paul Thomas Anderson and not Paul W.S. Anderson. I think it could be a good movie and I'm glad to see that Konami want to make sure that it's for the fans and not some watered down version just to appeal to everyone if you get what I'm saying...

Im sure Kojima is hand picking everyone as hes a perfectionist and he doesnt want his franchise raped and left on the curb in the rain like Uwe would do to it. I would be highly suprised if we dont see a MGS movie.

It would be a shame if they did not make a movie but on the other hand Final Fantasy anyone?

I wish more companies/studios would go the total CGI route rather than live action, if you look at films like FF:SW & FF:AC, it would be alot better IMO. I think you can control the acting better with CGI and can get away with a lot more stuff in character design...

Well I like real people, especially when they can act like no one.
Remember we are the ones who put live into CGI, not the other way around.
I agree with you @Thuggedout that you can do more with CGI. Many action movie can't do without CGI.
Maybe in 10 years or so total CGI will make a stand against real people. We will still need them for all the moves and mimics.

But I know Kojima will deliver and it will be full with special FX. I hope it won't take the rout FF toke(it is darn good movie to me, but really not appealing to the mass).
