What - now that Blu Ray has "won" are you all suddenly not interested in high definition/Home theatre?

Makes you wonder how many of you were really interested in the first place.

Seriously - Reflex is working hard making the home theatre board be interesting and no one seems to want to know.

But then, there is a "war" to be fought in the other boards...

I was only interested in the games. My Talladega nights and Spiderman3 bundled movies are still in plastic. I did watch the Spiderman3 and then my ps3 stared sounding loud when I played COD4 so I replaced it. Spiderman wasn't that good so I never watched again. I got Talladega for Christmas that year and the ps3 like a week later.

Maybe in a few years, I'll buy a few. My dvd player suits me will now.

I think what is important here is not blu ray but home theatre in general.

Lets get some discussions going - what kind of amp should you get? What kind of speakers? How best to route cabling! Best sound dampening devices for home cinema rooms.

All of that stuff should be going here!

lol,

Im still interested in high def, and still actively buying blu-ray discs.

I really liked I Am Legend with the alternate ending, it made the movie even better. Highly recommended to all.

No need to buy. Actively supporting movie rental businesses that stock Blu-ray (such as Netflix) has the same effect.

Yeh, I've noticed all the cobwebs building up on this side of the forums too. What a joke, everyone couldn't wait to get the 2 cents in during the war and when it was over "Oh M$ is stupid, they were gonna buy off all the movie studios, Sony is god, Sony is the greatest, blu-ray blu-ray blu-ray, I supported blu-ray because I KNEW ITS THE SUPERIOR FORMAT (puhleaze they were the same damn thing)." Whatever, I'm glad all the stupid little whiny posers are gone anyways. Go suck your thumbs you little brats.

On a side note, why the hell are blu-ray prices not going down? Seriously, why the hell would I spend $35 for 27 dresses for my girl? Come on Sony, get it all down to $20 already NOW!!!!

Its kind of hard to get good discussions about home theater stuff cuz

1) A lot of the people are young and cant afford that stuff that you are talking about
2) The people that can buy that stuff still wont buy it cause its expensive.
3)because of the above the thread wont last long enough for a good discussion

I would like to talk about that stuff since im die hard about my gear, just not a lot of people that feel the same way compared to the gaming side.

The main reason I am not here is because I have no money at the moment and I do NOT want to start designing my new A/V setup in my head when I know I can't afford it.

My system will be getting put together later in the year, I will keep everyone posted on how it turns out.

I'll only buy a Blu-Ray DVD's if it's a worthit film tbh. It's pretty rare a great film comes out that's worth paying so much extra for.

I've been in here but haven't posted in sometime. Haven't really had anything to post about in any of the threads really. I haven't bought a Blu-Ray movie right now since I'm looking for work. The one thing I hate is paying $34.99 for some movies here.

There's not much movement in the hi-def industry since Toshiba threw in the towel. Those are the big things. Then when the Blu-Ray subforum was renamed Home Theatre, not a lot of gamers have the time, or money, to afford setting up their own multi-speaker setups which can easily cost about the same as just the TV and Console when you add the cost of the speakers and receivers.

Oh trust me man, I don't do retail unless its a good sale. I love me some amazon but even amazon is still too expensive to me. Here are some examples:

Waterhorse = $27
Golden Compass = $28
Alvin & chipmunks = $28

Yes, Yes I know those aren't typically movies most guys here get but there are kids involved. I really don't understand why the prices can't be a solid $20 by now. It can't cost that much to make these things.

Replicator facilities are still being brought online and the equipment reflects the price as such. BluRay's will probably hit the $20 mark in late '09 truth be told. By that, I mean mainstream releases, not special interest titles which are already pretty close.

Dude.... what did I say? I mean seriously, I made (I think) 2 or 3 topics about this exact thing, questioning people's motives for even being interested in Blu-ray at all. I said (probably about 20 times) that once the war is over this place will slowly revert back into what it was before, which was a lesser used part of the forum.

Its not that I have a problem with that reversion, but the issue was the questioning of some people's actual interest in Blu-ray, for a lot of people posting here before it wasn't because they actually were interested, but more because their inner fanboy had to come out.

Each to their own, but I know when I get back from Europe I will be back as strong as I was before (now I'm really busy, and have been for the last month or two).

Granted, however the same titles, I am Legend (£17.98), The Golden Compass (£22.98) are only :

Alien vs Predator (£4.98) The Golden Compass (£7.01) and I Am Legend (£9.98).

That's a big difference. It's about time they priced these movies the same as normal DVD's. Surely by now the technology to wirte/produce these discs is cheaper than it ever has been. Thus you only get a poxy leaflet inside the box as if it's a cheap 'offer' at Morrisons (supermarket for non UK peeps :) )

Don't take this the wrong way, but its clear you don't understand how technology works....it took DVD years and years to get to its current price point....you may not be able to remember....but 2 years into DVD's life cycle there were no 2 for $11 bins at Walmart.....or new releases for $10.....it takes time....many small manufacturers still have not made a switch to BD fabrication because it costs A LOT to switch your fabrication lines over to BD...its in the hundred's of millions to setup enough lines to meet the current demands of the industry....a studio could write, film, advertise, and distribute a Summer Blockbuster which makes them a buttload of money for probably less than converting their manufacturing lines to BD....prices will come down....but if you're looking for DVD type prices....come back in a year or two....it took DVD 7 years to catch VHS (in yearly sales NOT total sales).... Studios have to put out A LOT of money up front to cover the costs of BD production and research....when they re-coup all of that initial Research and Development money....that is when we will start to see price drops...

WuTangBlade

America is so much cheaper for Blu-Ray though.

Best deal I could find in UK was 2 for £18 for a very limited selection of the early blu-ray releases.

I've been supporting HD-DVD more than Blu-ray in the past few weeks. I spent around $300 in the last week on HD-DVD. The fire sales are just killing me.

Regarding Blu-ray i just pre-ordered the Rambo collection from Amazon + Rambo 4. Cant wait to watch it ! I am going to buy National Treasure 1 & 2 pack as well.

I read the review of a movie called Sawariyaa from hi-def digest and i was told its a masterpiece in terms of Video & Audio. Heard it shows how good a Blu-ray can be. I might get that too ...

Shouldn't there be a "new releases" thread or something? ppl would get so excited when a single movie was released, now it's like... meh.. seen it.

Personally, I'm most interested in the quality ratings than anything else... helps me make my next blu-ray purchase...

No offense to any of the people here, but I probably would go get my setup support at a different forum, avsforums or something...
They seem to catch wind of manufacturers recalls, and problems extremely fast, so it would probably be the first place I'd go for AV equipment buying decisions..
This place would be more a place to discuss the latest release IMO.

I also have hit my financial limit; I have about 8 blu-ray movies on my amazon wishlist now, and I don't have the cash to spend on it atm. lol.

I'm also still "active" in this part of the forum.
I don't say much, but read almost every post/thread.
I like everyones reviews on movies, equip. and tech in general.
I'm happy that the PS3 finaly supports DTS-HD:MA but I don't have the funds to exchange my 3 year old RX-V1500 for an 1800 :( And, I also would need 2 more speakers!
I don't have many BR movies right now. I'm not the kind of guy to buy every movie I watch. I'll only by the ones that I know I'll watch over and over. I've got Transformers on my PS3 (HD-DVD rip) thats taking up over 10GB and simply love it... Now if only Paramount can release it on BR, I'll go and buy it!
This part of the forum feels the same fr me, granted I've only been here 5 months, lol.

im not sure you understand what DTS:MA support is....the PS3 decodes the codec internally...so your receiver thinks its PCM...so if the receiver you have now can accept multichannel PCM audio then it can take advantage of DTS:MA from the PS3....and also...you currently have a 5.1 channel setup? if so thats fine...most DTS:MA tracks are still 5.1....

Stupid thread imo - we are all here, we are enjoying our BluRays, we are waiting for more bombshell news regarding the massive BluRays we all want (LOTR, Starwars), were here to look out for advances in hardware, what more can we possibly do? Write feverish posts regarding the release of Animalia?

Noticed that only people hell bent on pointing out the lower activity are the hardcores with reputations to preserve? Makes me wonder if posters of threads and posts like these are just out making a point that not everybody is as 'into it' as they are. Yes you are the big daddys of the forum, be happy with it already.

If PS3 became the only console, I'd avoid game stuff for a while, actually, to avoid the rampaging fans, but I'd go back because games != movies. I don't have the money for a nice setup, I only cared about the UNI / VIACRAP vs SONY / DISNEY / WB / FOX

I second that, its pretty much what I said earlier. There's nothing really to cover, nor is there any movement other than new films finally getting the Blu-Ray treatment, or increased sales.

Don't get me wrong though, I greatly appreciate Reflex's work on getting a forum set up a place where people can voice their opinions/questions about home theatre and usually answer them in a quick manner. I've learned quite a bit from this forum, and this is the place where I became inspired to do my own research because, let's face it, regardless of how well somebody else knows the stuff, you really have to invest yourself to read the myriad bits of information that cover these things in a lot greater detail.

I'm still waiting on decent titles. Being in Australia, the range is much smaller than in other parts, and I can't be bothered checking for region coding problems, then importing.

I buy a movie every now and then, I still haven't watched Sunshine since I bought it. But seriously, I don't need every movie in blu-ray. I feel that only action/SFX heavy movies really benefit. So unless it's my favourite movie(Still waiting for JAWS Universal!!!), I'm not likely to buy BR when I already own the DVD, because I don't even watch the DVD's I have enough as it is.
