Tenjou Tenge is weird. At first I liked the plot at the beginning but then it took a strange turn in the middle. Then I really couldn't understand where the ending was going. Basically it went nowhere and it didn't resolve anything not even with the extra 2 episodes. Flashback episodes should not last that long.

Anyways... Good anime, NOW? Not much. I'm watching Macross Frontier, but only 'cause there's nothing else to watch (MF isn't even "good" by my standard, barely passable).

But Episode 2 for Kara no Kyoukai should be out within the day or two, and you should definitely check that out.

Kara no Kyoukai and Shingetsutan Tsukihime (this one is a few years old, but still good), if you haven't watched either :).

Hunter x Hunter - A very, very good story with good characters and fights.
Stellvia of the Universe - Girl goes to space academy to be pilot.
Mars Daybreak - Sea pirates in mars.
Initial D - Mountain drift racing.
Cinderella boy - a silly detective story.
Monster - Very realistic murder/fugitive story about a japanese surgeon living in germany.
Rose of Versailles - Story of characters and a country in years leading to french revolution.
Fullmoon O Sahga***** - Very good story about a girl wanting to be signer.
Hikaru no Go - Spirit of a Go player teaches young boy.
Shingetsutan Tsukihime - a dark and bloody mystery.
Mermaid melody pitchi pitchi pitch - Love sick mermaid battles eevil sea creatures by singing. ;)

It really depends what you want to see, but there are really good Animes in every category.

NGE is a series that has many aspects and conventions you will rarely see again if ever. It's annoyingly 'complex' and pretentious, but it nails so many things I like to see in a show -that I NEVER see elsewhere- that it's more than OK with me :D

A lot of great suggestions here. I would highly recommend Gankutsuou - The Count of Monte Cristo and Kurenai.

If Bleach or Naruto aren't your thing, then try looking at basically new renditions of the same themes: Soul Eater or Narabi no Ou.

I don't particularly like Soul Eater, but damn I've always liked it's kind of art style. And scythes NEVER get enough love as a primary weapon so even more <3

NGE isnt complex or deep in the slightest, what people claim to be deep in it is just random **** the writers thought would sound cool. It's really just schoolkids in robots fighting angels

i would suggest samurai champloo, it has some pretty good comic relief in it so its not just "see enemy, kill enemy" its more like "joke, see enemy, encounter enemy, joke, re encounter enemy, kill enemy. so it is more full than other anime!

NGE is a classic and is awesome- but it's so messed up and twisted near the end it's depressing....
