View Full Version : 5.1 Digital Audio Trouble

I recently installed a PS3 with a new home theatre and have had trouble with 5.1 functioning properly. Signal chain is as follows:
PS3>Denon AVR 3808ci>Samsung FTP 5084

The Denon recognizes it is receiving a digital audio signal, and my DVD player operates properly with Dolby Digital (have yet to try DTS, I'm assuming it works). Yet for some reason the centre channel produces no audio when I'm using the PS3 to play games.

Any help?

If you have it hooked up properly (which I assume you do), then what are your PS3 Audio settings for HDMI?

You should have it set to LinearPCM in the BD/DVD menu, and then go through the AUTO thing in the Audio Menu for HDMI. It should be working, do you have the settings in the Denon set up properly for the signal?

Hi Reflex and all,

How are we finding the Denon with PS3 generally? Im looking at 4308, or 3808, my old sony db930 reciever died on me. Tried not to let the wife see joy on my face!! especially as I remembered it's my birthday this month !!!

@Tanman...center channel is usually ONLY used for dialog..if you are just in a part of game like Menu or background you might not hear anything from center speaker...center speaker not often used for music.

keep posting.

I have the Denon 4308 and I totally love it...... it works wonders for pretty much everything I give it.

I can't say for sure what solved the problem, but I followed the recommendation to change the BD/DVD Settings (thanks REFLEX) and I changed the surround mode for the PS3 input on the receiver. Now all is well. Thanks to all.
