Right now I am watching Canada VS Russia olympic hockey game. I will start this long anngry rant by saying Canada has put just about one of the worst teams possible on the ice, and that we have just about the worse coach humanly possible, Pat Quin. Right now it is 16 minutes into the 3rd period and it's 1-0 Russia. I will get intop the cons of this team first
Roster: The Players on Team Canada are all too old and slow, We are playing international hockey on international hockey rinks, almost 2x bigger then NHL ice surfaces, now we have old decaying players playing(Biggest injustice ever, Canada just had a goal disallowed against Russia!!!!I hate this American Reff he can burn and die!)ok back to my rant, we have old people playing against european hockey players who play on this ice surface all the time and have always had a 0 tollerence for hooking which has only been introduced into the NHL this year so again we have old people playing against young people on a bigger ice surface.. now it's true that 4 years ago alot of these players were on the gold medal team.. but if I recall correctly that team had players like Mario lemiuex(who was regularly compared to the great one) and Paul Korea Canada had star players like that on the ice and not all old people or slow crappy people who shouldn't be in the NHL*cough* Mccabe, Thanks alot PAt Quin picking just about the worst defense in the NHL, to all you hockey fans here you should know that during the lock out Mccabe only played 10 games in the european league before he quit, the competing players were to fast for slow Mccabe. Now is it just me or is it rather odd that we are having a player who only played 10 games in the euopean legue who had to quit because he was to slow playing in the olympics on international ice against euopean players ? odd isnt, we owe that one to Pat Quin who coaches Mccabe on the Toronto Maple leafs, Want to know another interesting fact? Toronto has the oldest team in the NHL with few players under the age of 25(Canada lost 2-0.. im really pissed...) What would I have done diffrently if I were coach and got to pick the players? I would of picked some young kids sydney crosby and pit him against ovoechkin.
Coach: Team Canada has Pat Quin as coach, now to all you Toronto fans don't go saying he won Canada the gold 4 years ago, because it was the players last year who did it, all Pat Quin did was stand there, the players played and practiced with Wayne gretsky. Pat Quin is useless, we definatly needed a better coach. Like I said before Pat Quin is a fan of old vetrens but the problem is he is pitting them against young fast kids and is trying to have them play international hockey not NHL hockey(don't say there isnt a diffrence there is) Now here is a question I will ask any Leafs fan, when is the last time Toronto won a stanley cup or came close? has Pat won a cup or come close? No.
Why we lost: With 30-40 year old players playing against 25 year olds who are familiar with the ice and the it is next to impossible to win. Canada and team America both had the same problem, they werent ready for european hockey. The NHL is alot more physical a league and slower with a smaller ice surface, the European league is much faster with all it's rules aimed at making the game play faster, now with Canada and America having refferee's who make international calls it is next to impossible for the NHL players to play NHL hockey which has alot more body checking especially since the old people can't even catch the young kids, 4 years ago one of the reasons Canada won was because of the teams size, we were not the fastest team on the ice but we were the biggest and with the players being younger they were able to keep up and nail the european players and make them fear touching the puck which in the end led to a U.S.A VS Canada game. This year team Canada and America tried playing european hockey with old people and got murdered. If any people on these forums watched the juniours Canada VS Russia you saw that Canada was alot more physical then Russia plus they were faster due to thier age.
Diffrence between NHL hockey and European hockey:
NHL: Smaller ice surface so the players do less skating. The game is also alot more physical with body checking and fighting a larger part of the game, most NHL fans would have a hard time remembering a game with out at least one fight.
European legue: This league has all European teams and Russia, Alot of American and Canadian players go and play there if they don't make the NHL(hence why the Italian team had Canadian players) The european countries play on international ice surfaces which are much bigger then NHL ice surfaces which force NHL players to adapt and tire quicker(especially old people) The European legue's rules are aimed towards making the game move faster, the european legue has always had 0 tollerence for hooking, the NHL only started using it this year.
