I have an older Sharp Aquos released close to 2 years ago. 42" and I currently don't have the model number with me (at work). My question is, both my friend and I are experiencing extreme dimming during dark scenes on both the 46" model (hers) and 42" model (mine). There IS an OPC dimming special feature to save energy which both of us have turned off. I've even set the OPC dimming to it's brightese contrasting range. NOTHING WORKS! As soon as it turns to night in GTA it's unplayable. HELP!
I KNOW that you guys with Aquous' out there know my pain but I can't find this on any review or google report anywhere. Thanks!

Thank you so much. I mean-I have it turned off and everything and it still doesn't work. Let me know whenever you can. Thanks!

Yes, GTA on the Sharp is unplayable at night, unless you turn up the brightness two clicks in the game. I have my brightness at about +2 on my TV (Sharp Aquos 32") and two clicks up on the GTA display menu (in game menu) and it looks good at night time now. I've had problems with other games doing the same thing.
I'm not sure how it will look on your set.
Do you have the AV mode button when you open the flip door on the bottom of the remote ? Set it to PC and then turn up your backlight to +16 and then the brightness to +2. Then do what I said about the in game menu.

With the Sharp Aquos make sure 'black' is set to off in the picture setup screen, and if its an older set make sure you haven't got RGB Full range on in your PS3 display settings.

1) Ok, im sure you know that each source has its own setting so make sure the OPC is off on whatever source (in this case HDMI) the PS3 is on.
2) Like the other poster said, make sure the black option is off.
3) Im not sure what your blacklight levels are at but i remember i had mine pretty high, almost full then i backed down on the brightness ( 1 or 2 for final setting).....i think. Its been about 6mts since i had that TV
I hop that helps.....
Oh i forgot about the av mode. I think i had mine on dynamic on the PS3 and user on the directv. Like i said its been a while. Mess w/that too

I had no idea that the OPC is specific to a source. It does not indicate that in anyway when I bring up the menu and I know it's not automatic to when I change the source on input because I've done that. I'll make sure to turn the black setting off and play with the OPC soon. I'll update you guys tonight. Thanks again.

I've got a "46 and the opc only comes into play when you turn it on. yeah I've had that strarnge brightness thing happen to me about 20 minutes after the machine is turned on but turning off the "deep black" setting in the advanced submenu stops it from happening.
For all intents and purposes though, I changed the brightness at -9 and backlight at -8. Works well enough on a bright sunny day. range of OPC is +8 and +9. color temp at mid-low and every other special setting off. Fine motion isn't on, but it looks pretty good for now.

alright guys. I turned off deep black. Adjusted the colors. Adjusted the brightness settings to be much lower while increasing the back light. RGB is full on (since this problem effects my cable tv also I don't think that's it) etc. I will admit the tv has a much cleaner look-thanks! Colors look great and it's a taaad brighter. It still reduces brightness in dark scenes though and Niko is virtually invisible in a dark alley.
Why it gets DARKER during dark scenes I will still not understand. Thanks for the help so far. And I checked....to one posters comments the OPC setting is not specific to an output but rather to the tv itself effecting any input device. Thanks though. Maybe its not even the OPC.
