Well after Texas Chainsaw and Halloween,it was bound to happen, although I thought Rob Zombie would have been directing it...

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Danielle Panabaker, who plays James Woods' daughter in CBS' "Shark," has been cast as the female lead in the new "Friday the 13th" horror remake.

The New Line project, an update of the popular series featuring the goalie mask-wielding killer Jason, already features Jared Padalecki (the CW's "Supernatural") in the cast.

Panabaker will play an adventurous, athletic type, whose boyfriend (played by Travis van Winkle, "Meet the Spartans") is a rich alpha-male type.
Also joining the cast like lambs to the slaughter are Aaron Yoo ("Disturbia"), as a quirky guy who has a tendency to wear his attraction to pretty girls on his sleeve, and Jonathan Sadowski (the upcoming "Spring Breakdown") as a techie who knows the horrific history of Camp Crystal Lake, the film's infamous setting. Marcus Nispel ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre") is directing.

I've already decided not to watch it, because of that line.

I'm getting sick of all these remakes, they aren't even better than the original movies..

Make some ****ing originals!, i'm a massive fan of the horror genre, especially the golden age of the 70's/80's and i'm sick of them being ruined by remakes that aren't fit to have the same name. Seriously what is the point in remaking this?, I hope that it fails miserably so that we can all move on with our lives.

Expect more remakes, the biggest surprise I have heard so far is Hellraiser, which to me is the mother of all horror. Even more surprising was that Clive Barker is backing it...

so Friday 13th...remake or an adaption?

Notice though that it's only the mainstream horror, most of the ones I like won't be remade because they were controversial or relatively unknown to a wide audience. Still Friday the 13th is a fav of mine and so is Last House on the Left, which they are also remaking...

For those of you that remember the first and original "Friday the 13th", Jason shouldn't even be in this one.

Just his half crazed mother.

you think sleepaway camp would be remade?

Just his half crazed mother.

I'm just wondering if they go the origin route with this, like what they did with Halloween, so we see what Jason had to endure as a kid and how his mom got to be all whacko...

That'd be fairly boring and odd considering he dies when he's little. Thus, he isn't even "In the picture" for any of that.

He's a deformed child that drowns due to negligence of the adults at the camp. His mother, (one year later?) comes back and kills them all.

Jason rises from the dead a year after that, on friday the 13th... He isn't really a "Slasher" or a "cold hearted killer" so to speak. Jason is more or less an avenger, he dispenses punishment.

Different directors have portrayed him in numerous ways, but Ronny Yu (Freddy vs. Jason) and of course the man behind the mask, Kane Hodder maintain that he does not kill "Innocents" "Children" or small animals (dogs). This caused alot of friction between Hodder and some of the directors of the Jason flicks.

But it's embraced by the community, that Jason has a sense of "ethics" or "honor". Originally in the FvJ script, Jason protects a pregnant woman from Freddy. Though this was later cut.

Surely Freddy vs Jason isn't "canon" in the Friday the 13th series, not only that but the film is absolute ****.

It is "Canon" for Jason's character. As it fits closely the views of Kane Hodder, a large portion of the fanbase, and the director at hand.

Jesus what is with hollywood.
Damn them.
All these terrible japanese horror remakes (Hey i got an idea lets remake a japanese horror movie i think it will be awesome if we do it with white people.)
All these hollywood horror movies being remade too like you forgot to mention nightmare on elm street is being remade too.
its comic books, then video games, now anime is next.
We also got like 3-4 spoof movies a year and also at least 1 "dance off" movie a year.
And also all these remakes of old films and sequels as far as the eye can see.
Also all these damn fantasy movies trying to get some action off of the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter success.

Hopefully this is good, I could kill Zombie for what he did to my favorite horror slasher.
