DVD to PS3

I am currently using DVDFab to rip dvd's to MP4 w/ my PC then moving them to my PS3 w/ a thumb drive. Is there a program out there as easy as DVDFab that will rip a dvd to 1080i or 720p or 1080p?

I was also looking @ youtube the other day and seen some dude play a ripped Transformers HD-DVD from his PS3 hard drive, he also had Blu-Ray rips that he could play from his PS3, what program was this guy using? I know Anydvd will rip them but what program was he using to convert them to a format that the PS3 would play? I also understand that I would need to up my HDD.

I'm not entirely sure about all the codec's that the ps3 can play, but it's not really a point and click type of operation at this point if your really after high quality rips. I'm also not entirely up on the exact science of this stuff, as I read for a day or 2 about 6 months ago, and decided the effort just isn't worth it. A few things to consider before you really get going might be...

If your after true 1080P rips of these HD movies, your looking at 15-45gb files...with quite a few options to play with to pull off near equal quality.

You can compress these movies with great results down to 8-10gb, but the conversion process can take a Core2 2.4ghz pc 20+ hours to complete. I would assume you still need a pc blu-ray/hd dvd drive... although I don't doubt the ps3 would be able to rip some of this stuff through linux, I haven't heard of it...and i don't think it would be as efficient as the well tested pc programs at this point.

If your just downloading movies you can get pretty much anything pre-ripped, if your going to be buying movies and getting into it yourself, your best to head over to Doom9 forums and give it a day or two of reading...things may have changed in the last 6 months, but you will have a good idea of what your getting into either way.
