Ok, I've started tv shopping and my budget has gotten much smaller after putting the wife's car in the shop. So I'm looking to spend about $1000. I'm looking for the biggest hhtv I can find. 42'' is ok but i'd like to have a 50''. I've found this so far....you guys got any ideas?

I'm thinking of this one. I can spend 999 on the tv and 99 on the 2 year plan and get free shipping.....

I know it's out of your price range, but I got my 60" SXRD for about $2000. If you want a big TV for fairly cheap, rear projection is your best bet. You could probably find a 50"-55" for around that much used, but that's a bit unrealistic for a new set.

I'm thinking of this tv. Again at wal-mart. It's a little more but it's a 50'' plasma. I'm not sure if it has a tuner.

Im not sure where you live but go to costco to get your tv. They actually have a good selection and a cool warranty that is free. Thats right free!! As long as you stay a member they will extend the warranty a year after the manufactures warranty so thats a 2yr warranty. Its no hassle, bring it in and get full in store credit which you can use towards another tv or get the same one.
this tv is $100 more then what you want, but the aquos series is a great set. Vizio and the Westy arent that great when it comes to picture quality...... oh and the coupon deal is easy. they have a booklet at the front when you walk in. real easy!!

my suggestion?....
wait....save some money...TV's can wait, your family's livelihood can't....with the sizes you want, and the money you have to spend, frankly you are not going to get something that is going to keep your impressed for the long haul....

I wouldnt recommend the Vizio. Not the best tv. The reason i know is cause ive owned one in the past. I actually had the L37 model. Im on my 3rd HDTV and the Vizio was the worst of the 3 ive owned. I had a 37" Sharp Aquos that was a good TV. Im on a 42" 1080p Phillips that im enjoying right now. My word of advice; get something good and not deal w/it. I got lucky and had hook ups to switch tvs but not everyone has that luxury. If you can, save up a little bit more cash and get a set that you will enjoy for a long time...

for that price i would go for a samsung 5054 or a panasonic 75u.
both are 50inches and will have better pq than any of the tvs listed.
why would you buy a vizio or westinghouse? crappy hardware.

I saw the other TVs listed here. But i don't think that those TVs are even a close match for the 50" Sumsung above..The Samsung specs are VERY good. The TV was for 1600$+ and now its 999$.
50" DLP TV
1920 x 1080p Full HD Resolution
UltraSlim DLP: Fits where others won't (Depth: 11.5")
GameMode with 3D Ready
NTSC/ATSC Tuners with Clear QAM
10000:1 High Contrast Ratio
DNIe (Digital Natural Image engine)
BrilliantColor2 for LED (NTSC 140%)
WiseLink (1.1 USB)
10 W x 2 Audio System
SRS TruSurround TXT
3 HDMI inputs
2 Component Video inputs
2 A/V Composite inputs
PC (RGB) inputs
1080 Input support
And this one i found it interesting.
The HLT generation of Samsung DLP HDTVs are capable of displaying future 3D games, movies, and other programming via 3D compatible glasses and hardware.

That price seems to good to be true, I would get that in a heartbeat as that works out to about £500 over here!! I was going to suggest the Sony Bravia U series as they a the lower end models but put out great picture, but nevermind now....

IMO you should wait. You're looking at some inferior brands when you are looking at vizio and westinghouse. I would wait a little and and purchase a better brand such as Sony or Samsung or even Sharp. If you're getting a TV over 40" there is also no reason why it shouldn't be 1080p instead of only 720p. I would look around on amazon and other online only retailers as they usually offer more sales than physical stores and see what you can find there.

when buying a new tv, you will hear a lot of marketing gimmicks. its best to just do research and find out on your own what you need.
the 1080p may not be worth it depending on your viewing factors. resolution is the LEAST important factor when buying a new tv.
if you had a 1080p tv with CRAPPY contrast, than your tv even though it is 1080p will look like crap compared to a 720p with better contrast & saturation.

Sounds like a solid decision IMO. Do you know what price range or size range you will be going for in the future?

I think I'm willing to go as high as 2000 but not much more. I'd like the biggest tv I can get.

I'd go for a DLP TV then although these are not the best for gaming I hear. It all depends on what you want to use it for. I know I have seen some EXTREMELY crisp looking DLP TVs that are 65" and larger at Best Buy for less than 2K.

After reading all this, you guys just helped me out alot as well. I'm in the same perdiciment, but I have a small room, and plan to buy something in the 30" range. I'll have around $1000 to spend, and for such a small TV, I have plenty of flexing room. Thanks alot guys.
