So i made this cool wanted poster for the Photo Manip contest. I know the contest is closed, but its still pissing me off that i cant do it right. I have a cool wood background that i was going to use as like a wall that i can put the following wanted poster up on:

Heres my problem. To make the paper i used an adjustment layer, and it made it look like old paper and burnt and stuff, but it also affects anything under it, including hte bg layer. So when i tried to put the wood up there... it just ends up looking black.
If anybody could help I'd appreciate it
Peace.

mmm... not really what i meant
I wanted a way to do it w/o having to save it as a jpg or something, and then cut and paste it. I need to be still able to work with the layers and not have every thing merged.
Thanks for the help anyway v.p
and sorry not posting in sticky. ill post it again there if i feel like it

i don't really get what you mean, but i'm guessing that the texture you used for the paper is set on color dodge or similar setting where it doesn't show up on a white background, but on a colored background it makes it all black? am i right? well the simple thing to do is just select the inverse of the paper and delete the texture layer.

just link the layers you want by holding the shift key as you select them and then click merge layers in the option menu in the layer palette

Try finding this layer that effects the look, click it so it's select it, then CTRL+Click the layer that makes that is the shape of the paper, then CTRL+SHIFT+I to inverse your selection then click delete, it should remove that effect from the back of the image, then try the wood.

^^^ that's what i said, but he can also make a selection around the torn paper and create a layer mask on the layer that effects the background. Which would probably would be better since it doesn't delete the layer if you need to use it again

option click between the layers to create a group mask - it's non-destructive and easy. or command (alt I believe on a PC) click on the background layer (not the wood) and it should create a selection for you (if the background is transparent - then simply select your adjustment layer and click the "add layer" mask in the pallette - viola.
