In your opinion, what Anime series has the best artists? As in, character models, scenery, expression, etc. I think Helsing has the coolest and most detailed characters.

To many to pick from. love the art in escaflowne and gundam wing, but at the same time the drawing/computer edited appleseed was a surprising change. there is to many different styles even in a series they will change back and forth from a different types of styles. look at DBZ there is probable 100 different Goku's in one saga because of the type of situation he is in.

Before anyone flames me i mean, there is a serious Goku well drawn very sharp well toned then there in the run like hell goku that looks like a 4 year dished out.

Are you talking about manga? if so...

Shounen:
I'd have to go with Buso Renkin, D.Gray-Man and Bleach have some pretty good character designs too but the art itself isn't that great.

Seinen:
Hellsing and Berserk.

Shoujo:
lol shoujo

Eva = Epic character designs and Character Designer... i love everything he touches (.Hack games come to mind as well as some Gurren Lagann work.)

Also Gurren Lagann has awesome Designs as well... so super colorful and animated... (GL and Death Note are my all time favs)

Death Note for me.

But out of all character designers, my idol is Tetsuya Nomura.

GTO and Hajime No Ippo. Gungrave is pretty good as well.
I have to say studio ghibli comes up with some interesting characters like the ones in Princess Monoke.

Ergo Proxy because it's unique as hell, especially considering it's Anime
Ghost in the Shell: SAC because it's just the best looking anime i've probably seen, especially Solid State Society.

Sagara Sousuke from FMP... Hilarious guy, due to being utterly clueless to anything involving common sense :D!

Yoshiyuki Sadamoto's artwork is very nice, its simple yet distinct. He's the character designer behind Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Testuya Nomura's work for Final Fantasy is nice, it's pretty and I like pretty things.

Yo****aka Amano's artwork is exquisite, I collect his artwork.

All three are recommended.

Oh, oops. I just realized that my previous reply was totally off topic and full of phail... Sorry :(.

Uh... now, let's see... Gorgeous artworks... Hmm...

I honestly love the art direction of Shinkai Makoto's films. They got really interesting and neat colouring. Absolutely GORGEOUS to watch.

Hmm, other than that, I love the way Kara no Kyoukai is being drawn (not sure who's heading it). I've only seen trailers of it, so the quality isn't all that great, but even so, the artwork looks gorgeous!!!!!!

Can't go wrong with DBZ. I really love the character designs, with the exception of a few and love the style of the series as a whole.

*Can't wait for season 5 to come out to finish out Cell*

Hands down:

Last Exile: Lavi, Claus and Tatiana

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y34/FrictionIs/renders/TatianaLastExile.png(Tatiana.. But it's a bad picture of her really. Doesn't reflect her personality and character much from the Anime. Still, goes to show you how great Range Murata is!)

Crest\Banner of the Stars: Jinto & Lafiel (cutest couple ever).

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a343/ptj_tsubasa/lafiel.jpg
(Lafiel in formal dress. This is very rare for her)

http://www.absoluteanime.com/crest_of_the_stars/jinto.jpg
(Jinto... absent minded as always)

Both have amazing art styles, plot (although Banner\Crest of the Stars has a much more original (in the vein of "Dune" originality here people) than Last Exile, which is more in line with a Final Fantasy type setting.

However, I tip my hat to overall look or Range Murata's design in Last Exile, while I do concede that Crest\Banner of the Stars has much better character development. Social interactions are what drive that show.

D....B...Z.... :suspect:?

Do yourself a favour, and trash that series and watch DB GT instead.... Superior to Z in every single way possible.

Now, as for Crest of the Stars... man, that's just CLASSIC. It's got what my friend like to call "large eye syndrome" (and they turn him off, oh well, he's missing out!). I personally don't mind, but I'm not going to go gah-gah over the art style, which isn't all that great in my opinion.

I have yet to watch Banner of the Stars, but I hope I'll have time to get to it some time soon. Classics like Crest of the Stars are becoming extremely rare to find, though :(.

Will probably watch it when they release the seasons of them on DVD. I heard nothing but bad things about GT so it will be interesting to see if its underhyped or overhyped.

It isn't so much the art style per se, it's just all of the lore and mythos packed into that series. It really does present itself like Dune or Star Wars. It's amazing.

I love that space opera!

I'm pretty certain they're out on DVD already. But hey, I don't follow anything Dragon Ball... so I could be wrong on that.
Everytime someone says GT is good a DBZ fan dies :cry Gee, that's too bad, now, isn't it ?

*cries* Go watch the actual show. The CN/Toonami show is completely different. And awful.

I have to go with Escaflowne for generally beautiful art -- but if we're including movies, then I have to go with Miyzaki, and Studio Ghibli in general. Look at Monoke Hime and Spirited Away, omg. <3

Character design would have to go to Clamp Studio for me. Card Captor designs are just so likable for me =3 Costume designs are often amazing and inspirational.

Scenery/backgrounds goes to either Neon Genesis Evangelion or Gankutsuou. I don't think there is anything else as enjoyable to watch in this regard as to these two.

Overall though I think I might have to go with Code Geass oddly enough XD I hate the genderless guys and the grossly too-thin body designs, but the character designs I still find really appealing. It's almost got more emotive expressions than most other shows and the girls are hawt as heck.

It's almost more recognizable than most other anime series:

And superior to Death Note ^.^

Props to Seirei no Moribito though. It's gorgeous but kinda forgetable :(

I'm also incredibly partial to this <3

Hey now I love everyone on the YYH team. Hiei, Kurama, Kuwabara....but they all would be beaten like dogs by Yusuke in the end. He just... sorta....leap frogged all of them in the last saga. :p

Which was a bit disappointing, because the 4 were so well balanced throughtout the bulk of the series.
