It's one of the only anime films that I watch. This particular scene is my favorite.

And for the record Tetsuo doesn't die in this scene. :P

you got your year wrong.
Akira came out in 1988.
Akira is the 1st anime i saw as a child and its what got me into anime.

I knew it was 1988, just an innocent typo. I always mix up the 9 and 8 keys.

and yeah i've seen it.. its a totally awesome movie.. one of the 1st animes i've seen..

i think my 1st few were ninja scroll this and fist of the north star.. oh and la blue girl but.. umm yeah didn't exactly no what it was at 1st...

Metropolis is a good anime too -- usually the older anime films are the better ones.

I've read the manga, but didn't get hooked mainly because I noticed I spent half the time scrolling through pages upon pages of half-naked men fighting all the time. I thought the story was pretty cool, though.

Interesting I never read the manga..
I saw the movie, movie though.. not the series

I thought the movie was pretty awesome.. not much of half naked dudes running around but there was a hell of alot of blood and gore!!!
