this is a little off-topic but i think the nfl playoffs is the hardest because you know you only have one game but the others you have like 5 to6 games games to win the series

not true.... soccer has single elimination as well. plus OT is shootout.....pressure situation for the shooter....hockey is also shoot out now but shooter isn't expected to score so more pressure on the goalie

ps Soccer for me if you couldn't tell

american football- boring! they stop after every play and it gets pretty boring at parts.

Baseball- no good IMO. They just take a long time, they could hurry a little

Basketball-One of my favorites, very fun to watch and play

Rugby- now thats a good sport, its fast paced with violence, i think its awsome. Go Pumas (if you know about rugby you know what im talking about)

Soccer- My favorite sport, its the best of every sport put into one. Just amazing

i guess its because its been around for a while, but football seems more to be the favvorite here, no not soccer as football i mean the contact hard hitting sport other than hockey.

Jeez what wussy Football matches do you watch?

If that's the case i'm never watching Football in America, you're football matches must be boring if there's no physicalness.

The nitty gritty English way of playing football is the way to go.

America's backwards, you've got football which we call rugby (with no helmets, and you don't throw the ball 100 yards forward. ), and you call Football Soccer.

I mean if you're throwing and holding the ball with you're hands it's not exactly football is it?

no im talking about the NFL not soccer or whatever. the one without the black and white round ball. still hockey or the NHL rules. its the only sport really that every country knows by the same name.
its fast paced, hard hitting, fun to watch and play, you dont get fined for fighting, not too many rules, and takes alot more skill, will, and effort to play, also alot more work.

As I said above, soccer is may favorite sport however, I used to live in Australia for 14 years and I love the Australian Rules Football (AFL). I agree, us Americans have everything backwards.. and I hate American football its so boring.

I think the poll should be changed to 'American Football' instead of just 'Football.' And for soccer put 'Soccer/Football.'

Soccer is track with a ball. You run miles and miles and when you finally get to the goal you hardly ever score. A 2-0 game is like a blowout.

The only reason baseball would be boring for anyone to watch is if you don't know the rules. If you don't know what a suicide squeeze is, or you don't know what the in-field fly rule is, you'll think its boring.

Nah, while rules do matter many people don't precisely dislike certain sport just for them but because it is simply not as entertaining to sit and watch as something else would be instead, well thats what i think. For instances, i know what baseball is all about but it just doesn't flow well to me lets say.

American football is my most favorite sport to watch, but to play definetly soccer. I find soccer matches on television to be rather boring, though they sometimes televise the English games over here, and those games are much better I must say. Baseball I only really watch when its the playoffs and World Series. There are just so many games in the baseball season that each individual game becomes virtually meaningless. Hockey isn't a great sport to watch on television I don't think. You really have to be at the game to appreciate it.

My dad is from australia, and his buddies at work used to make fun of him because he loves soccer and his buddies liked football. It all changed one day we went to a picnic and nobody brought a football ball  . And there was only a soccer ball, they started playing it, and they didnt want to leave the field. Now they are addicted to soccer.

THE OFFSIDE RULE

out of the whole of sport it's the most confusing rule on the planet.

Rugby has too many rules it makes me dizzy, you've got a scrum, and then a conversion after every try and you can't pass to people infront of you o_O, i don't even know the rules myself.

Basketball is my favorite sport. It's a great sport to watch since it is easy for any team to get back in the game and every play is exciting to watch since you never know what will happen. Plus, you can play basketball just about anywhere. :D

Football is a close second though.

What the hell? you left all of us hockey fans out of the loop with no option for it :x Oh well I personally like CFL better then NFL even though most CFL players are Americans who couldn't make NFL I still like to watch it better, bigger field by 20yrds 1 down less sounds much harder. I probably shouldn't be talking about CFL being a place for Americans who didn't make the NFL since europe is where Canadian and some American hockey players go to play if they don't make the NHL.

I like Hockey because I find it has a mix off alot of sports, it requires great hand eye cordination for shooting the puck or for being a goaltender(you try catching a rubber flying past 100MPH let alone even reacting fast enough to block it) it requires speed and decent amount of stamina(not as much as soccer but still) it requires physically size like football or else you wont go far, the shortest guy in the NHL is like 5'7 but he was amazingly good, he played for the Canada national team, st.louis.

My only problem with hockey? to much of it relies on the goal tender. if a team has a bad goal tender they wont go no where, look at Ottawa senators last year they had a amazing team but had patric lalime in nets, he basically screwed them over. Now Ottawa has Dominik Hasek one of the best goalies in the NHL(aside from broduer and roy) and Ottawa is now dominating, they only have 3 or 4 new players. sure Heatley is getting alot of points but hossa isnt far behind and he use to play for Ottawa, goes to show how much hockey relies on goaltending. You get sports like Soccer where the game doesnt really much on the goalie due to the increased net size which means the game relies alot more on the players which I can appreciate, maybe if they shrunk the goalie's pad size down more it would be diffrent but the goalies keep on complaining about shots with composite sticks like synergys and vapors so they keep there large equipment.

Cricket is by far my favourite.
Touché! And the Ashes was some of THE best cricket I've ever seen in my life! And I thought when Botham and Gatting were captains was when it was exciting. O_O

i re-quote.

The only reason baseball would be boring for anyone to watch is if you don't know the rules. If you don't know what a suicide squeeze is, or you don't know what the in-field fly rule is, you'll think its boring.

i personally don't think Baseball is boring (i find it tolerable), but i thought it was as simple as whacking the ball and running four bases, and the ball can't go over some pole in the further reaches of the stadium and you can't get three strikes or you're out.

WTF did you just say there?

D-Lee
January 18th, 2006, 09:16 PM
Oh.

A Suicide squeeze is when you have a moderately fast runner on 3rd and the batter bunts to bring in a run. The in-field fly rule is Where the baserunners can advance on a pop fly in the infield. Normally, the baserunners can't advance to the next base until the outfielder catches the ball. When the umpire calls "infield fly" the baserunners can advance at their own risk without getting picked off the base that they were previously at but can still get thrown out at the base they try to advance to.

and the ball can't go over some pole in the further reaches of the stadium

I think what you're referring to is the foul pole. If the ball goes past the foul pole, it's a foul and its a strike until you already have 2 strikes and in that case the batter gets another at bat. If a fielder catches the ball when the ball is already past the foul pole, it's an out.

Football , because is the most competetive(spelling right ?) sport , thanks to the salary cap , other sports should implement this , I mean it gets boring to watch the Yankees win the world series almost every year just because they have the money to spent , that's the same with Real Madrid Barcelona and Manchester in soccer .

Trinity
January 21st, 2006, 02:12 AM
Real Madrid have so many stars they cant play together. Barcelona is a well balanced team, they have ronaldihno, samuel eto'o, leo messi, and they dont win everytime.
I choose soccer because they are real atlethes, they have to run around the field for 90 minutes. No time for stopping plays and planning, so they pull tricks out of nowhere.

What a great topic! For me, there's no way I can not pick basketball. Football (American football) would come in second place for me, even though most American's choose it over basketball for some strange reason. But let me explain myself.

The reason's I like basketball better than any other sport are varied. For one, professional basketball is probably the most competitive sport out there. A team can be up a good 30 points and the opposing team can still come back and make it a challenge or in some cases even win the game. You just don't get that kind of rivalry in other sports, except for perhaps baseball but how hard is it to come back in baseball in the fifth inning when you are down by, let's say, a good 7 scores?

Hockey, well, I live in Detroit, Hockeytown as it's called, and I've watched hockey during the playoffs, but I've never got the gumption to watch during the regular season. You just can't score enough points to make the game as interesting as basketball in my view, even though you are always (or at least should be) on the edge of your seat because you are anticipating a score, but I just don't get the same excitement by watching the Red Wings score as I do the Pistons.

Then there's baseball. Man, I have never been a fan of baseball. It is just such an unexciting sport to me. I find it very slow and plodding. But I have been known to watch the playoffs and Worldseries, if only to keep up with who wins that year. I find that baseball players (and fans) tend to exude more passion during the playoffs, though that's pretty much true of all sports. I can sit through a baseball game during the playoffs though, if only passively though I do try and watch the Worldseries all the way through.

Football. Football is my second favorite sport. But I do have problems with it. Even though it has nothing to do with the players, I don't like how a lot of American fans respond to their teams. If say, the Steelers are up 42 to 7 against the Colts and it's halftime, the fans will be all over the opposing team when halftime ends. It's like they don't want to see ANY kind of competition. Wouldn't it be more exciting to see a competitive game throughout and then have your team win in the end? I expect fans to cheer their team but I watch sports to see competition, and not necessarily blowouts (though I DID want the Pistons to blowout the Spurs in both games that they'd play this season--and they did--but that's another story entirely). Also, with football, I don't like how they play so few games. My dad explained to me that football is a very rigorous sport on the body (perhaps the most rigorous sport out there) and that if they played more games than they already do it would take a tremendous toll on the body. Fair enough, but I still don't like it. It would be nice if they would at least extend the Superbowl to a best 2 out of 3 series, just have the games every Sunday for three straight weeks. That would be wonderful in my opinion.

About soccer. I live in America and they don't broadcast soccer here so I have very little association with it and can't comment on it. But yeah, basketball is my favorite sport by a longshot. The NBA is easily the most exciting sport's league out there in my view.
