Well, I just finished the tutorial, so far it's very much like the first one.
You play as a school boy who opened a magic book that transferred you to this world called Ivalice. Obviously you met some guy that is just starting up a Clan, so you joined them in hope to get back to the real world just liket the first game. The judge system is back, and you still find postings at a bar for clan jobs. The character models are the same as the first one, graphically it's maybe a 5% inprovement. So far it's feels really familar, it's almost like the first game except the lead character and enemies are diferent, everyelse is the game.

I'm not sure yet, but if somehow I can get that far (losing some interests now in the game), I will keep you updated. It's got the same jobs like all the previous games, you started as solider but can switch to WhiteMage or BlackMage, but I bet you know that already.
I kinda enjoyed the first game, but compared to FFT: Lions War, it's no match.

FFT & FFTA are different kind of games. Whereas FFT is more focused on story, FFTA is more focused on having tons of missions to do, missions that don't really have anything to do with the story, a lot of missions that take a hell of a lot of time to complete. I prefer FFT, because I can always appreciate a great story, but there are some who like the kind of game more that FFTA is. So... It's not like if you like Final Fantasy Tactics -> you'll definitely like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance just because it's another Final Fantasy that has Tactics in its name.

I like Matsuno's work, and FFTA is not done by him so the quailty suffers. I still played the hell out of FFTA though, spent around 60 hours for that game.

Nope this is FF Tactics A2 fro the DS, a sequel to FF Tactics Advance
FF Tactics: The War of the Lions(PSP) is a port of FF Tactics for the PS1

No, it's out a week ago in Japan only. Probably have to wait until summer 2008 for a US release.
One bit about the judge system this time around you don't have to follow the law but if you do you get extra goodies instead of being penalized when not following it.

Are there any new character classes or races? Is the law system identical? I liked the first one, and was looking forward to this...I'll be disappointed if it's just a rearrangement of the first game with a new main character and different missions. :/

I don't know, so far the classes are the basic ones, like the White Mage Viera you can see here:

The Judge system is different, now that you don't have to obey the laws, but if you do you get extra iteams and loot.
