What is your favorite long running shonen anime?

I don't like long running shonens because of all the filler but Hunter X Hunter is on of the few animes that I used to watch on TV, the arabic dub was pretty good and it was pretty gorey and dark for a show that was aired on a kid's channel. too bad it was canceled half way through due to a lot of complaints about it being too gorey and dark and I couldn't see the ending :[

This poll is about animes not mangas, the Claymore anime is only 26 episodes long. The poll would have been too big if included mangas.

And Berserk is seinen.

Which is why I voted for claymore, which is still a shonen :P And yes, sorry, you're right, my apologies I thought the title said manga, not anime. In light of that, the only ones I bothered to keep track of are Naruto and Bleach. Despite not liking them much at all considering the paths they've taken, Bleach is more favorable I guess :D

I'd have to say Hajime No Ippo (A.K.a Fighting Spirit), the manga has been running to for nearly 18 years now (coming close to the magical ch.800 release) and it's my all time favourite sports manga (even more than slam dunk). I recommend the DVD releases of the anime (there are 76 eps, 1 OVA and 1 Movie).

However I would also like to say Hunter X Hunter is another good one,and so is One Piece. I also really enjoyed Kenshin anime (up to sheshio).

The reason why I didn't include Ippo and other sports series is because I don't consider them to be traditional action shonens. I hope you understand

Its a split between Bleach, Gintama, and Hajime no ippo.

actually now that I think about it, its actually a 4 way split (lol) with the addition of Yakitate Japan!

I think you should have made this poll multi option.

I voted for DB/Z/GT simply because no other series compares to it for me time wise, even if I do like others better nowadays. (only because the series ended, I would have a "nerdgasm" if the series started running again, lol.)

Does anybody else on here REALLY dislike long running shonen anime?
They just seem to flood the anime market nowadays. Ask a random anime fan which is their favourite anime and they're likely to say something along the lines of DBZ or naruto. I used to watch DBZ when i was young, now it's unwatchable. I tried to watch naruto, about 20 episodes, and it was just terrible tbh. These things are just like cartoons made by japanese people.

Whereas shows like Death Note, Ergo Proxy, Ghost in the Shell and Neon Genesis Evangelion are actually mature and have something more than just explosions and power ups and ridiculous plots. To me shows like DBZ and naruto are no better than the trashy cartoons we have in the west, they add nothing to the genre and do nothing to expand upon it either. Whereas, for example, NGE (in my opinion)blends giant robots and psycho drama so perfectly it basically transcends it's anime roots and becomes a piece of art. Infact I was talking to some friends at college, and their favourite anime was Naruto, DBZ and One Piece. And I asked them if they had ever seen Neon Genesis Evangelion and they were like 'what's that?'

I don't think of anime as cartoons. And I believe that shows like DBZ and Naruto give anime a bad name.

Yet Naruto is in no way DBZ'ish?.

It's all gotten so out of hand that Sasuke just owns everybody, he even owns Yondaime before he was born, it's ruined the entire series for me.

i can say with a passion i hate naruto, bleach, dbz, inuyasha... uhhh pretty much they arent that great... sure theres SOME good eps... but overall animation quality is pretty crappy. the ONLY good on in that list is kenshin.

Dragonball Z for me, plainly for sentimental reasons, its the show that kicked it off for me, but if I would probably pick Bleach as the best, One Piece is good, just went off it 140 episodes in and Naruto... I got to like 20 and Sakura annoyed the living **** out of me and Naruto isnt great either, plus they keep telling you whats just happened.....

Then you have the added bonus of a whole year of filler. Yesss!!!! I recall someone saying one filler episode was about poo... just sums it all up right there.

Bleach is prolly my favorite. Some of the best fight scenes I have ever seen. Yu Yu Hakasho gets and honorable mention.

For me- Naruto/Shippuden, it is a good anime, though it has WAY too much filler. Seriously, basically nothing has happened in Shippuden. Shippuden could be 7 or 8 episodes, but over 50 episodes with how little has actually happened? C'mon.

Bleach for me, the anime is getting to the best part now and if any of you are updated on the manga....its amazing at the moment. Fan of naruto also but bleach is the one for me at the moment......
